[5]Video/Action for Violet City
[The feed comes up on Blake outside the Violet City gym. He's holding the Gear in one hand and tossing something small in the other. Behind him his Snubbull is sitting on his Mareep, both looking proud of themselves. For his part, Blake doesn't look so thrilled.]
Hell of a loaded word, "badge."
[He catches it on the toss and holds it up to the camera.]
Look at that. Does it looks like much use to you?
[He sighs and slips it in his pocket.]
Zap the crap out of a kid's birds and get a medal that lets you fly.
You know what the worst part is? It's not until right now I realized there's anything wrong with that. I'm getting used to it.
[He starts walking aimlessly down the street, Pokemon trotting after him.]
It's baseball season, not that you'd know it here. Can't remember the last time I missed Opening Day. But hell, now it's been more than a month. Just went right by. How's it even May if you're not arresting drunk idiots on Cinco de Mayo? It's not right.
[Blake looks troubled.]
It's too easy to get caught up in this animal fighting crap and forget about the real world.
[His expression shifts toward its more familiar flinty pugnacity.]
Almost everybody here's been here longer than me. Give me some proof you haven't forgotten. Tell me something about home. Anything, I don't know, something you miss.

[Blake can still remember how proud he was. He wanted to shove it in everybody's face and say, See, I did make something out of myself, assholes. In fact, in more than one case, he did.]
Seems like people here get them all the time. It used to be different, huh.
[Blake's not that interested in the life and times of crazy bullshit island, but he doesn't mind chatting with anybody with a rack like that for a while.]

[ It's okay. Lust can sense his unwillingness to talk about badges, even if he does seem confused over their meaning. Instead, she steers the conversation more towards him. ]

[He squints at the little thing.] It doesn't look impressive enough to get my damn onion bulb to listen to me.
no subject
Well, it may not look impressive to you, but it's a sign you defeated the strongest pokémon in the town, so they take it rather seriously.

[People too bullheaded to consider listening to reason from an outside source are so damn frustrating.]
Huh. When you put it that way, it doesn't sound so bad.
[Maybe puffed up just a little.]
They weren't so tough.
Hey, what's your name, anyway?
no subject
[ She smiles at that. Strong pokémon? She likes it. ]
I like that attitude. Your pokémon must be incredibly strong. I am Isabella. May I ask for yours?
no subject
The mind-reading pink blobs are bad enough.
[Damn right his Pokemon are strong. Blake puffs up, and so does the Mareep. Perched on its back, Steve flexes her bicep.]
They earn their keep.
[This lady's okay.]
Isabella, huh? Nice to hear something normal. Lieutenant Carter Blake.
no subject
I sure hope they do against a strong man like you. [ She does a heh type of chuckle before nodding. ] A pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant Blake.

Little floating ones, look like a cross between a balloon and a piggy bank. Never blink. Creepy little bastards. Mona? Munna? Something like that. Every time I let the thing out of its ball, I turn my back for one second and it floats away somewhere and doesn't come back til morning.
And the little bastard chews on my head.
[The compliment surprises the scowl off his face and makes him straighten his shoulders.] Likewise.

Ah, Munna is a pokemon that revolves around dreams. As a result, it's prone to mindreading. Most psychic pokemon are, however. Munna is hardly the most unsettling of offenders.

[He veers off before this gets too philosophical.]
Dreams, that's just stupid bullshit your brain tells itself when you're not paying attention. Animals aren't supposed to give a damn about them, except the ones about chasing rabbits that make dogs' paws twitch. That thing doesn't even have paws. Just little stumpy things.
If that one's less creepy, I don't want to see the others.
