[Jail is fucking boring.]

[They'd stuck Blake in a cell for a while until they figured out something about community service. It was a lot faster than back in the real world, but even crazy bullshit island has red tape. Blake's not sure whether that's nostalgic or not.]

[Cells are the same everywhere, too. He's never been on this side before. The novelty wears off fast.]

[He wishes he had a ball to bounce against the wall or something. They didn't even leave him any of his animals for company. Maybe that's a good thing. He doesn't know how he's going to explain this to Steve.]

[There's nothing but a book, and there's only so much anybody can take of The Dratini Code.]

[Blake leans back on the hard bunk and tosses his phone in one hand. When he got in here the one thing he was sure of was that he didn't want to talk to anybody, but nothing weakens that conviction like a couple hours alone with the hot, uneasy feeling in the back of his head.]

[He flips the phone open before he can think about it too much and says the first thing that comes to mind.]

[The face that comes up on the screen will look a lot less combative and more withdrawn than usual.]

Seems like everything around here is like back home but turned the local kind of stupid. Do they even make any real original movies?

Well, sort of... I don't know if I really like it that much, but...they seem to have fun, so I let them fight when they want...

It's the best way to keep the rats and squirrels from gnawing on your a....ankles.

It's a weird thing to get used to, but there's always wild ones or other trainers looking for a piece of you. It's self-defense. Somebody hits you, you hit back, right?

It's an important thing. You let one guy push you around, soon everybody's using you for a doormat. That goes double for girls.

I find it difficult to stand up to people myself, though... Even when I want to say something, it's suddenly really difficult to.

It's not so tough. If somebody's pushing you around and being an asshole, all you have to do is say so. Just look them in the eye and say, "Hey asshole! Get lost!"

Well... I guess there was someone who was...difficult to get along with [be as nice as you want, Chihiro, but Togami was a jerk no matter how you slice it] but I don't think I'd be able to say they needed that...

[Blake takes a wild guess that she's understating the case by a lot.]

Maybe if they'd gotten smacked around some, they'd put more effort into getting along. Some people don't understand anything except getting the crap kicked out of them.

Sure, it shouldn't be your first option [though it's usually Blake's], but you can't let people walk all over you. You've gotta show them you'll stand up for yourself.

The people who tell you never to resort to violence, they're the ones who've had it so easy they never needed to.
