[The feed comes up on Blake outside the Violet City gym. He's holding the Gear in one hand and tossing something small in the other. Behind him his Snubbull is sitting on his Mareep, both looking proud of themselves. For his part, Blake doesn't look so thrilled.]

Hell of a loaded word, "badge."

[He catches it on the toss and holds it up to the camera.]

Look at that. Does it looks like much use to you?

[He sighs and slips it in his pocket.]

Zap the crap out of a kid's birds and get a medal that lets you fly.

You know what the worst part is? It's not until right now I realized there's anything wrong with that. I'm getting used to it.

[He starts walking aimlessly down the street, Pokemon trotting after him.]

It's baseball season, not that you'd know it here. Can't remember the last time I missed Opening Day. But hell, now it's been more than a month. Just went right by. How's it even May if you're not arresting drunk idiots on Cinco de Mayo? It's not right.

[Blake looks troubled.]

It's too easy to get caught up in this animal fighting crap and forget about the real world.

[His expression shifts toward its more familiar flinty pugnacity.]

Almost everybody here's been here longer than me. Give me some proof you haven't forgotten. Tell me something about home. Anything, I don't know, something you miss.

[Blake gets the feeling this kid is the exception to a lot of things.]

[Hell, if Blake were a kid he probably wouldn't be able to stand. He hates being pushed around as much as he likes doing the pushing himself.]

There's one thing less to worry about - they all say time stops back in the real world. So if anything, you get a head start. You'll know more about monster weasels than anybody else in your class.

[The more he goes on, the less sense he makes. Blake resigns himself to dealing with another nut.]

It's food. Its life goes, "I hatched, I pecked at some feed, I got killed and fried and now I'm delicious."

[Blake revises his assessment to a point between "nut" and "hippy."]

[He nods glumly to the last] I hear you on that one. Someday I'll find who's behind it and toss their keyboard in a lake.

They don't, but getting to ride once we finally get back on the ground is worth the months or years of waiting.

At least the pigeons here can protect us from the gigantic bugs. That's definitely a step up from the ones just hanging around fast food joints and trying to steal our fries.

[Door kicking was always fun, but Rude mainly misses the fighting. The sound of fist upon flesh? Music to his ears.]

[It's a niggling 'what if' that's seeped into the back of his mind - if he hadn't gone with that man, then his dad would still be alive. He could've walked home from the park to wait for him.]

They're alive. They have feelings. I want to know if they mated, if they had trouble finding food, what their personality was like, if whoever killed them let them suffer. I don't feel like I can live for them as well if I don't know how they lived.

The mun also tries to figure out how that power can actually work, because seriously, Aquarion, don't just dump something that ridiculous on us without giving us an explanation.] It's more like a bunch of pictures and ideas all at once that you have to pull apart to see how they go together. [I'll go with that for now.]

Fighting with animal companions is normal, if not a little rare, where I'm from as well. Though we didn't get arrested for throwing a few punches ourselves.

[Children fighting AND fighting children weren't exactly problems either.]

[Ignoring the Asian thing for the moment here Blake.]

[The lines deepen on Blake's face.] Mine too. Sneaks up on you, how fast things can change.

[You know people for years, then suddenly all they care about is Jayden, the fucking hero.]

You want people to understand you, quit making up words.

The beds here, those are fine. Sleeping by the side of the road and waking up with a giant caterpillar trying to crawl up your nose, that's the problem.

[They should be friends.]
