[You wouldn't think a yellow rat could look so offended. She looks between Blake and Steve and flings her stubby arms in the air before turning to waddle/stomp off.]
[Nobody should feel this damn bad for offending a (probably criminal) armadillo.
Steve snubs wait! and bounds after her, necklace jingling on her neck.
Blake will leave this to her, and in the meantime, go just inside the entranceway and discreetly make some calls to Goldenrod jewelry stores inquiring about missing stock.]
[Blake's research would not be entirely fruitless.]
[Meanwhile, Bossy has made some good distance before she cools off. It does help that Steve has come along. OOOH if she weren't out of PP for so many of her attacks, she'd give him SUCH a poison sting!]
[She's more like her trainer than she cares to admit.]
[The Sandshrew eventually finds a few bricks and plops down on them as if they were a public bench.]
Can you believe him, Steve! I'm a Ground Type! Nobody knows rocks like us!
[Bossy pouts for a little longer before letting out a great big puff and getting over it because Steve looks so cute when she's happy! She rubs at her snout again.]
I started it quite a while ago. I always liked those shiny stones but I never knew what to do with them until you started being my friend.
[Steve fingers the shiny stones.] And you polished them and put them together and everything. All for me?
[She thinks that's amazing.
From down the street, Blake has caught sight of the two of them. He decides to approach slow for once, give Steve a chance to talk. For once, he thinks better of going in guns blazing. He's not exactly looking forward to this conversation, anyway. So he keeps his distance.]
[Steve is thoroughly dazzled.] And I can really keep it?
[Blake sighs and starts heading toward them. What his instincts tell him to do is run the rodent down, grab her, and toss her in whatever kind of jail they have for tiny jewel thieves. A cardboard box with bars on it or something.
But that'd make his dog sad, and you can't just do that.
[Steve's ears twitch. She looks concerned. She doesn't want to think badly of her friend. but...] People dropped all these diamonds?
[For Blake's part, it doesn't take speaking Pokemon to know that's some kind of denial. He tries to speak soothingly. He's not real good at it, but he tries.]
[Bossy's ears stick straight up and she whirls around to meet Steve, her black eyes wide and maybe a little shiny. Oh, this was all crashing down around her!]
But Steve! It had to be these! These are the rocks humans give to each other when--
[Blake can't tell what the armadillo is saying, but there's nothing like covering your mouth to show you just let something slip. He keeps his mouth shut.
[Bossy suddenly feels like a Voltorb with how red she must be. But if Blake is going to take the pretty rocks away, she has to leave Steve with SOMETHING. She parts her claws enough to speak through them.]
[The Sandshrew buries her face in her paws again and nods furiously.]
Oh Steve! Ever since that first time we danced together--it was so fun! You were so nice to me! Nobody had ever been that nice! And you're just so--you're such a nice color of pink! And I love your wet nose and your spots and I understand if you don't feel the same way! But I had to--I wanted to make you feel special the way you made me feel special!
[Okay, now Blake is looking down at an armadillo who is making a steady stream of frantic armadillo noises as Steve's eyes get brighter and brighter, until she throws her arms around her and exclaims,]
[Bossy cries out in surprise. She wasn't entirely sure how she expected this whole thing to go, but it seems things are turning out for the better! She moves her paws from her face to put them around Steve's shoulders, under her frill.]
[Bossy is still conflicted. She supposes neither of them NEED the diamonds now...but she does feel a little bad that Steve doesn't get to wear it after thinking it was so pretty. She pulls back and gives the bulldog a small smile.]
If that's what will make you happy, Steve. I'd rather have you than some shiny rock.
[Bossy's paws fly to her snout again as she blushes.]
Steve!
[Blake's interjection gets her attention though and the yellow rat looks up at him, finally, without pure rage in her beady little eyes. The Sandshrew heaves a sigh and gives him a nod.]
